If you live in the Chicagoland area you should be familiar with “Block Parties” in our individual communities.

These block parties are initiated by a resident who lives on the block that desires to have the party. The permits to host a party are issued through the Alderman represented in your community at no charge.

These parties consist of food, games, music, and neighborly fun.

This past Saturday I performed with the rock band Steamvalve Nation, where I am one of the vocalist and the band leader vocalist/guitarist Terry Tuccori is a longtime resident on the block.

There were other local rock bands who performed at the block fest of the 3900 block of Christina St.

However, there was one band “Man Wolves” who brought rock soul funky grooves that made you want to get up and dance.

Block parties are designed to be neighborly fun times that the residents enjoy and invite their family and friends. Block parties are woven into the fabric of Chicago’s Soul! Many of our communities no longer have them because of the violence that have taken over in certain parts of the city.

These kinds of events are needed to keep the community together and get to know your neighbors.

Maybe just maybe the community we each live in could benefit from the bonding and community team work that comes from forming these kinds of events.  I enjoyed performing for the 3900 block of Christina St. They really know how to have a good time!

Check out some of the highlights from the block party…
